No pregnant woman wants to think about the dangerous signs during pregnancy, but unfortunately, they may occur. Knowing about these dangerous signs should not scare you, but they should make you feel informed. It is important that you do not panic if you have one of the signs, but you should call your doctor immediately.
Bleeding
Spotting during pregnancy is usually normal. However, continuous spotting or bleeding (such as during a menstrual cycle) may mean that something is wrong with the pregnancy.
Kicks
Once you begin to feel the baby kick and move (at roughly 16 to 20 weeks), you should feel at least four movements per hour. If you feel less movement or no movement at all, then there may be a complication.
Pain
Pain in the lower abdomen, possibly on just one side, within the first 16 weeks could indicate an ectopic pregnancy. This can usually be fixed and is diagnosed through an ultrasound, but it must be diagnosed as soon as possible.
Vomiting
Many women experience morning sickness, but sometimes it becomes too much and the woman may become dehydrated and lose weight. This can be dangerous for both the mother and unborn baby.
Contractions
Contractions are only a dangerous sign during pregnancy if they indicate pre-term labor. Pre-term labor is classified as anything occurring prior to 37 weeks gestation.
Blood Pressure
High blood pressure can indicate a serious pregnancy complication, known as eclampsia. It may also be accompanied by severe swelling of the wrists and/or ankles.
